1. The sales volume of new energy vehicles has increased greatly, driving the growth of demand for power batteries
In recent years, China's automotive lithium battery industry has developed rapidly from scratch, from small to large, and its production capacity is second only to Japan. With the key support of national science and technology projects, significant progress has been made in the research on key technologies, key materials and products of power lithium batteries in China. From the demand side, in recent years, China's new energy vehicle sales have shown an overall growth trend. In 2020, under the influence of COVID-19, the sales of new energy vehicles still increased by 10.9%. Since 2021, the sales volume of new energy vehicles has increased rapidly. From January to April 2021, the sales volume of new energy vehicles in China reached 732000, a year-on-year increase of 257.1%.
2. The shortage of supply leads to the rise of raw material prices
While the demand increases greatly, the supply of power lithium battery raw materials is tight. As the global lithium, cobalt and nickel resources are mostly concentrated overseas and monopolized by the head mining group. In 2020, some mines experienced shutdown, bankruptcy and merger. At present, there are still unstable factors on the supply side, and there is the possibility of capacity contraction or conservative integration of resources, resulting in a shortage of raw material imports and tight supply. The recent rise in the price of raw materials for power lithium batteries can reflect the current tight supply of raw materials for power lithium batteries. The raw materials of lithium battery mainly include anode and cathode materials, electrolyte, diaphragm and current collector. Among them, cathode materials and electrolyte are the key raw materials of lithium battery, including lithium carbonate, lithium hydroxide, lithium hexafluorophosphate, etc. Since 2020, the ex factory price of battery grade lithium carbonate has increased from the lowest 42000 yuan / ton to 95000 yuan / ton.
